One of the most incredible Manchester derbies in history. In a nine-goal thriller, Manchester City thrashed Manchester United to stay in contention at the top of the Premier League standings thanks to a hat trick from Haaland and another from Foden. An Antony strike and a late brace from Martial pulled one back for the Red Devils.
Manchester City are aiming to fight for every title this season and they are proving it. Guardiola’s team was much better than Ten Hag’s, mainly thanks to an incredible performance from De Bruyne and two hat tricks from Haaland and Foden.
The first half was remarkable. It took the Sky Blues just 45 minutes to thrash Manchester United, whose full-backs, Malacia and Dalot, had already been shown the yellow card in the first 20 minutes.
Just seven minutes into the Manchester derby, Foden gave the Cityzens the lead. Rodri found Bernardo Silva on the left flank, the Portuguese crossed the ball to the near post, where Foden shot past De Gea to score the first goal of the game.
The home side continued to create chances while the Red Devils struggled to defend. In the 33rd minute, Haaland extended the lead. Kevin de Bruyne’s cross from the corner found the head of Haaland. The Norwegian’s header was cleared by Malacia but the ball had already crossed the goal line.
Three minutes later, Haaland scored his brace. Kevin de Bruyne put in a lovely cross to the far post, where the Norwegian striker pushed the ball into the net to score his 13th Premier League goal in just eight games.
Pep Guardiola’s side would show no mercy and scored a fourth goal seven minutes later to deliver Ten Hag’s side a massive blow. Through a great counter, De Bruyne drove the ball and found Haaland on the left flank, who fed Foden with a lovely pass to the far post. The young Englishman only had to push the ball into the net.
However, Manchester United did not throw in the towel. Antony pulled one back with a 35-yard screamer. A pesar del gol de Antony, las malas noticias no se habian acabado para los Red Devils.
In the 64th minute, Haaland proved to be a cyborg. The Norwegian got his hat trick after beating De Gea with a shot at the near post after Sergio Gomez squared the ball to the penalty spot. Thus, the former Dortmund player became the first player in Premier League history to score three hat tricks in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Foden was also aiming for his hat trick and finally got it. In the 73rd minute, Haaland received on the edge of the box and fed Foden, who was just inside it. The young Englishman beat De Gea whit a shot to the near post.
However, Ten Hag’s team did not give up and managed to close the gap thanks to a brace from Martial. The striker scored his first goal from a rebound in the box after Fred’s shot. The second came from the penalty spot after the referee had awarded a penalty.
